Alex From the upper terrace of the Temple of Zeus, the 360-degree panorama reveals both the grandeur of Roman Gerasa and the wide, rolling landscape beyond it. On one side, immense fallen column drums, weathered capitals and blocks of honey-coloured limestone lie scattered beside the surviving temple columns and podium—powerful reminders of the scale of the sanctuary that once stood here. Turning across the terrace, the view opens down toward the ruins of Jerash: the long line of the Oval Plaza, the streets, colonnades and excavated structures spread across the valley below. Beyond the archaeological site, the modern city of Jerash climbs over the surrounding hills, creating a striking contrast between ancient stone and contemporary life. The height of the sanctuary makes the setting especially dramatic, with dry golden slopes, olive and cypress trees, distant ridges and an immense Jordanian sky framing the remains of the city’s great temple to Zeus.
