Ottoman Hajj Forts

From the 16th century the Ottomans built forts with water cisterns at stops along the pilgrim road from Damascus to Mecca. Many still stand beside Jordan’s Desert Highway, from Qatrana and Al-Hasa to Fassu’a and Mudawwara near the Saudi border.
