Hellenistic Period

After Alexander the Great, Jordan was ruled first by the Ptolemies of Egypt and then by the Seleucids of Syria, and Greek culture spread through its towns. The period’s most striking monument is Qasr al-Abd at Iraq al-Amir, the palace of Hyrcanus the Tobiad, near the caves cut into the cliff above it.
