Ottoman Period

The Ottomans protected the pilgrim road from Damascus to Mecca with a chain of forts, many of which still stand along the Desert Highway, from Qatrana to Mudawwara. At the end of the period came the Hejaz Railway, whose station at Al-Hasa is covered here, along with stone heritage villages in the south.
