Alex Standing in the Civic Complex, this 360-degree panorama opens across a broad, dry expanse that was once among the most important public spaces in Roman Jerash. The presumed Agora spreads across the foreground as an open archaeological field, while the surviving walls and columns of the Civic Basilica rise beyond it, marking the edge of the former civic centre. To one side, a long curve of substantial masonry hints at the scale and organisation of the complex; beyond the ruins, the modern city of Jerash extends across the distant hills. The view is less about a single monumental façade than the relationship between spaces: open gathering ground, formal public hall, collonaded streets and the busy urban life they once supported. Under the wide Jordanian sky, the panorama makes it easy to imagine this northern quarter as the administrative and communal heart of ancient Gerasa.
