Khirbet et-Tannur is a remote Nabataean hilltop sanctuary in southern Jordan, near the King’s Highway and the ancient settlement of Khirbet edh-Dharih. Established in the second century BC, the temple complex was a place of pilgrimage rather than a town, with a forecourt, altar platform, sacred enclosure, and richly decorated stone architecture.

The site is especially important for what it reveals about Nabataean religion. Archaeologists found sculptures of deities, altars, inscriptions, lamps, animal bones, grain offerings, and other traces of ritual activity. Today, its ruined temple and wide views over the Wadi al-Hasa landscape make it a rewarding destination for visitors interested in archaeology, hiking, and Jordan’s lesser-known heritage.
