Alex This 360-degree panorama captures one of Jerash’s most layered spaces: the meeting point of the South Gate, the former East Souk and the later South Street. To one side stands the monumental South Gate, its arched openings marking the ancient entrance to Gerasa. Beside it, the towering limestone wall of the Sanctuary of Zeus forms a dramatic boundary along the broad route leading toward the city centre.
Low stone foundations on the opposite side preserve traces of the East Souk, once a busy line of workshops and shops serving travellers on the road to Philadelphia, modern Amman. Although the market no longer survives above ground in its original form, these remains reveal the commercial life that once animated this approach.
Under a wide Jordanian sky, the view brings together monumental architecture, everyday trade and centuries of urban change in a single remarkable setting.
