Inside the Temple of Artemis: A 360° View of the Temple

SHARE

Inside the Temple of Artemis, the 360-degree view is framed by a remarkable ring of towering Corinthian columns, their richly carved capitals rising into the vivid Jordanian sky. Massive limestone walls and surviving chambers enclose the sacred interior on either side, their rough, warm-coloured blocks revealing both the monument’s immense scale and its long history of reuse. Looking through the open colonnade, the ground falls away toward the ruins of Jerash and the modern town beyond, creating a dramatic contrast between the temple’s sheltered inner court and the wide landscape outside. The worn paving, broken architectural fragments, and deep shadows cast by the columns make the space feel both monumental and intimate—a powerful glimpse of the unfinished sanctuary of Gerasa’s patron goddess.
