Ancient Caves – 3D Virtual Walk-through

A 3D walk-through of the ancient caves in Iraq Al-Amir, Jordan (also known as the “Caves of the Prince”) begins with an ascent up stone staircases carved into the limestone cliffs of Wadi al-Seer, leading to a network of 15 man-made and natural caves arranged in two tiers. The lower level features caves once utilised for living and as stables for the Tobiad cavalry, while the upper level, connected by a 300-meter-long gallery, provides a breathtaking panorama of the valley and the nearby Qasr al-Abd palace. Entering Cave No. 13—the most prominent of those designated to Tobias—visitors immediately encounter a deep Aramaic inscription of the name “Tobias” (or “Tobiah”) engraved above the entrance, marking the ancestral seat of the powerful Tobiad family. The interior transitions into a rough-hewn corridor leading to specialised chambers, including a semi-circular shelter room, a spacious area with carved walls that likely housed multiple families, and a unique columbarium at the gallery’s left end featuring hundreds of triangular niches for dovecotes.
