Inside Jerash’s West Souk & Military Barracks

SHARE

This 360-degree panorama places you inside the compact ruins of Jerash’s West Souk and later Military Barracks. Low stone walls and paved ground outline a former courtyard, while high masonry walls frame the space on both sides. On one side, a deep rock-cut area behind protective railings recalls the souk’s workshops and oil-press installation. On the other, the tall ruins of the South Gate rise nearby, explaining why this once-commercial quarter later became a guarded military post. Steps and scattered architectural blocks lead the eye through layers of rebuilding. Under a vivid blue sky, the panorama makes this overlooked corner feel both enclosed and connected to the wider ancient city.
