Tell Deir Alla

Visiting Tell Deir Alla offers a fascinating glimpse into one of Jordan’s most important archaeological sites, where excavations uncovered layers of settlement dating from the Bronze and Iron Ages, including the famous Deir Alla Inscription mentioning the prophet Balaam son of Beor. Archaeologists also revealed ancient sanctuaries, residential structures, storage facilities, metalworking areas, and evidence of earthquake destruction that reshaped the settlement over centuries. Today, visitors can walk around the tell and see the remains of mudbrick walls, excavation trenches, and the elevated mound overlooking the Jordan Valley, while imagining the thriving ancient community that once stood here.
