Alex From this 360-degree viewpoint at Jerash’s South Gate, the visitor stands in a broad, sunlit stone forecourt with the Visitor Centre immediately behind and to the right, making this the natural threshold between the modern arrival area and the ancient city. Straight ahead, the gate rises in warm limestone against the surrounding ruins, its tall central arch framed by two smaller side passages, projecting columns, decorative mouldings, and deep shadows that bring out the monument’s Roman architecture. Low remains of the city wall extend on either side, linking the gateway to the wider defensive circuit of Gerasa, while the passage beyond leads visitors toward the archaeological heart of the city. To the left, a small stone service building, signs, and visitor controls occupy the edge of the paved plaza. The wide panorama emphasises this meeting of past and present: ancient stonework and excavated walls stand before a carefully managed modern entrance, all set beneath an expansive Jordanian sky.
