Step into a 3D virtual walk-through of the Stylite Tower Complex and explore a distinctive monument associated with early Christian asceticism in Jordan. Move between panoramic viewpoints to examine the surviving tower, surrounding ruins and open landscape, following how the structures relate to one another. Look closely at the stonework, the tower’s proportions and the architectural details that distinguish it from the lower remains nearby. The experience invites you to consider the demands of constructing an elevated place of religious retreat and the relationship between physical separation and spiritual devotion.
Stylites were Christian ascetics who practised devotion from elevated platforms, withdrawing from ordinary life while remaining visible to the communities around them. With this tradition in mind, continue through the virtual route to explore the tower’s setting and compare its imposing vertical form with the spaces at ground level. Detailed stops draw attention to masonry and surviving features, while wider views place the complex within its exposed surroundings. Whether preparing for a visit or exploring remotely, the walk-through offers a way to examine the architecture at your own pace and reflect on how an unusual form of religious practice shaped the built landscape.
