In a village near the Syrian border, Qasr Deir Al-Kahf is a large basalt fort built around AD 200 and enlarged in AD 306. When the army left it became a monastery, the “Monastery of the Cave”. This album shows the high walls and towers, the courtyard and its arches, and spaces inside that are still roofed with basalt arches and stone slabs.
