Far out in Jordan’s north-eastern desert, Qasr Burqu grew around a late Roman or Byzantine basalt tower; around AD 700 the Umayyad prince al-Walid built rooms and a courtyard around it. This album shows the tall tower, the walls and basalt arches of the rooms, and the seasonal lake that fills the basin beside the ruins in wet years.
