Dajaniya Fort

Dajaniya Fort is a well-preserved Roman-era fortification located in the eastern desert of Jordan, near the ancient Via Nova Traiana trade and military route. Constructed in the 2nd century AD, during the reign of Emperor Trajan, the fort served as part of a strategic network of desert outposts guarding the empire’s southeastern frontier.

Rectangular in shape and built from black basalt stone, Dajaniya Fort features corner towers, thick perimeter walls, and an internal courtyard. It was designed to house a small garrison of Roman soldiers tasked with monitoring caravan movements and providing protection in this remote and arid region. Its isolated setting and intact structure offer a remarkable glimpse into the logistics and military planning of Rome’s frontier defence.
