Jordan has unveiled a new gem on its growing map of heritage destinations — Qatrana Castle, freshly restored and ready to welcome visitors after a major redevelopment project launched by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities under the directives of Prime Minister Jafar Hassan.

The historic fortress, located along the ancient Hajj route in southern Jordan, has long stood as a silent witness to centuries of pilgrimage and trade. Now, following extensive conservation and infrastructure upgrades, it has been transformed into a fully equipped tourist destination that celebrates both its strategic importance and cultural legacy.

Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Imad Hijazin, who inaugurated the site on Sunday, said the project included comprehensive restoration works, new visitor facilities, and enhancements aimed at enriching the overall visitor experience. “Qatrana Castle played a vital role as a key stop for Levantine Hajj caravans, and we are proud to revive this part of our heritage,” Hijazin noted.

Beyond preserving history, the initiative also aims to empower the local community. New opportunities are emerging through the operation of small shops, local training programs, and the ministry’s plan to train guides from nearby towns to share the castle’s stories. The site will also be featured in the national tourism campaign “Our Jordan is Paradise,”encouraging travelers to explore Jordan’s southern regions.

Declared an official tourist attraction earlier this year, Qatrana Castle is expected to become a new highlight for cultural and heritage tourism in Jordan — attracting visitors, creating jobs, and strengthening the country’s position as one of the Middle East’s most captivating destinations.
