When we first arrived at Tafileh-Sila’a Heritage Village, I felt as though I had stepped back in time. Nestled in the rugged landscapes of southern Jordan, the hotel is built within a historic village where stone houses, narrow alleys, and stunning mountain views create a magical atmosphere. Unlike the modern glass and steel buildings found in most cities, every room here is part of a traditional structure that has been carefully restored. It felt authentic, warm, and deeply rooted in the local culture.
A Room with Stone Walls and Timeless Charm
Our room was simple yet full of character. Thick stone walls kept it cool during the day, and in the evening, the lamps provided a soft, cosy glow. The beds were comfortable, and the wooden furniture perfectly matched the rustic style. I especially loved opening my window in the morning to see the rising sun casting golden light on the surrounding mountains — it was like waking up inside a painting.

Exploring Sela Castle
In the afternoon, we embarked on a wonderful hike to the Sela Archaeological Site, known as Sela Castle — the main reason we came here. We hired a local guide, arranged with the help of the hotel, who was very knowledgeable and showed us the most interesting parts of Sela while explaining everything in great detail. The hike was quite easy and took us about 30 minutes to reach the gate of the site from the parking lot.

Authentic Jordanian Dinner Under the Vines
Dinner (not included in the price of the hotel) was served in a courtyard shaded by grapevines, featuring traditional Jordanian dishes such as fresh bread, olive oil, labneh, and mixed grill. The hospitality was genuine; the staff treated us not just as guests, but almost like family members. They shared stories about the history of As-Sela’s village and suggested walking routes where we could explore ancient ruins, terraced farms, and enjoy panoramic viewpoints.
Breakfast was simple, but all we needed was some coffee to wake us up and discuss our plans for the day. The manager of the hotel, who was also the cook, was very helpful with all our inquiries and made our stay a truly wonderful experience.
