As the golden rays of the sun began to dip behind the majestic mountains of Tafilah, I set foot into the warm embrace of Ramses Lodge. Nestled in the suburbs of this ancient Jordanian town, the lodge offered not just an overnight stay but an experience steeped in history and natural beauty.
Arrival at Ramses Lodge, Tafilah
Arriving in the early evening, I was greeted by the friendly staff who exuded that renowned Jordanian hospitality. The lodge, with its stone architecture, seemed like a seamless extension of the surrounding landscape. It stood as a testament to the tradition and culture that have defined this region for centuries. The decor inside was equally enchanting, combining traditional Jordanian elements with modern comforts.
After a full day of exploration, including Al-Tafilah Castle, the Archaeological Museum, and, of course, the famous Sela, I was looking forward to having some rest in a quiet place with stunning views, which Ramses Lodge had to offer.
Embracing Jordanian Hospitality
As I settled into my comfortable room, I took a moment to appreciate the view from the balcony. The vast expanse of the rugged landscape stretched before me, dotted with olive trees and the occasional shepherd tending to his flock. It was a far cry from the hustle and bustle of city life, providing a serene sanctuary that urged me to slow down and savour the moment.
Dinner at the lodge was a delightful affair. The kitchen, famous for its local cuisine, served dishes that were both hearty and flavorful. I indulged in chicken with rice, salad and side dishes. As I dined, I shared stories with fellow travellers, each of us captivated by the richness of the surrounding area’s history and the warm camaraderie at Ramses Lodge.
After dinner, a short stroll around the lodge’s grounds revealed a stunning display of stars overhead. Free from the obscuring lights of urban areas, the night sky here put on a spectacular show. I stood in awe, the cool desert breeze a gentle companion as I traced constellations with my eyes.
Retiring to my room, I found the bed plush and welcoming. The quiet was profound, only occasionally broken by the gentle rustling of the wind or a distant nocturnal bird. My thoughts drifted to the ancient peoples who once traversed these lands, and I felt a connection to the past that was both mysterious and comforting.
The next morning, I awoke to the soft light of dawn spilling into the room. A hearty breakfast awaited, and as I enjoyed my meal, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for this pause in my life’s journey. Staying overnight at Ramses Lodge was more than just a place to rest—it was a reminder of the beauty found in simplicity and the powerful allure of history and nature intertwined.
As I checked out and bid farewell to the welcoming staff, I promised myself I would return. Tafilah, with its breathtaking landscapes and the tranquillity of Ramses Lodge, had captured my heart, offering both a refuge and a timeless journey I would never forget.
