Dana Biosphere Reserve

The Dana Biosphere Reserve is Jordan’s largest and most diverse nature reserve, spanning over 300 square kilometres from the elevated edges of the Rift Valley down to the low-lying Wadi Araba desert. Established in 1993 and managed by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN), the reserve is a stunning mosaic of mountains, canyons, deserts, and valleys, offering breathtaking scenery and unmatched biodiversity.

Dana is home to more than 800 plant species and over 450 animal species, including rare and endangered wildlife such as the Syrian serin, Nubian ibex, sand cats, and caracals. The reserve also encompasses several archaeological sites and traditional villages, including the charming stone-built Dana Village, where local communities have lived for centuries. Visitors can enjoy eco-lodges, hiking trails, birdwatching, and cultural encounters, making Dana a model of sustainable tourism and conservation in Jordan.
