The Royal Automobile Museum (RAM) in Amman recently welcomed renowned British television presenter and journalist, Richard Hammond, known for co-hosting “Top Gear.” Hammond’s visit combined his passion for classic cars with a historical mission, reflecting on his admiration for Jordan and its people. He also highlighted his latest television series, “The Smallest Cog Workshop,” now preparing for its fifth season on Discovery+.

During his visit, Hammond retraced the legendary journey of T.E. Lawrence to Aqaba, emphasising the significance of Jordan’s rich history. He noted that the classic car industry is not just about admiration but also serves as an important economic sector, creating job opportunities and sustaining livelihoods. Hammond observed that the love for classic cars in Jordan is strong and continues to expand.

Established in 2003 under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Royal Automobile Museum showcases a rare collection of vehicles ranging from Hussein bin Ali’s cars that arrived in Amman in 1916 to modern sports cars. The museum displays 80 of the late King’s cars and motorcycles, some dating back to 1909. Each vehicle tells a unique story along the timeline of the late King’s life, highlighting the 47-year reign of King Hussein and the history of the Kingdom from the era of His Majesty King Abdullah I in the early 1920s through the era of His Majesty King Abdullah II today.

The Royal Automobile Museum is located in the northwestern suburbs of Amman, Jordan, just north of the 8th Circle. It is open to visitors from Saturday to Thursday, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and on Friday from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The museum is closed on Tuesdays. Visitors can explore the extensive collection of classic automobiles, including Cadillacs, Rolls Royces, and Mercedes Benzes, reflecting Jordan’s rich automotive history.
